Gonna do a bit of bloggerly catch-up here on the summer that was. It’ll come in 3 chunks then chunk number 4 will be a day-by-day transcription from an analog blog account (paper and pen) of the personal retreat I just returned from.
On with the show…
1.0 - Winnipeg Beach
We usually only get out there once a summer but it’s always a highlight for our family. It’s about an hour north of the city and we were just out there for the day.

Not sure if anyone outside of Winnipeg (or inside of, for that matter) ever watched the summer-teen-drama TV series Falcon Beach but it was all shot at Winnipeg Beach and they desecrated the landmark water tower at the east end of the beach. I think they might have been vinyl lettering though cause if I squinted it looked like the edges were peeling a bit.
Reminds me of the time Winnipeg lost out as the location for the Brad Pitt/Anothony Hopkins pic “Legends of the Fall” because the city wouldn’t replace the mature trees in the historic Exchange District with smaller trees. There was much local debate over that but I can’t remember what my stance was.

Are they wearing snow hats?
Why would big trees be a problem in a movie? Seems like a silly reason to not shoot a movie somewhere.

Yes in Canada even though it was July and the temp was around 80 it could blizzard at any moment so the kids wear snow hats to the beach as a precaution.
The trees were too mature for the time period of the movie. The city they were depicting in a certain area in a certain year would have had only small trees lining the streets because the city wouldn’t have been around long enough yet to have big ones. Directors/production designers/producers are usually very anal about those kinds of details.

They are knitted… but the material is actually paper (serious) not yarn or fabric. They are just sun hats.

Equilibrium is a fun movie. I’ve never thought about the close-captioning, but come to think of it, they don’t always do foreign language versions of the features either.

Oooo, nice redesign… the comments seem a bit messed up though… The MoviesBrilliantAnnoying post shows comments from 2006. Unless maybe it’s a Firefox thing… *shrug*

Hey Jaydee,
Yep it’s the first semi-customizable theme offered here (you can insert your own custom header image).
…and nope, it’s not a Firefox thing… my comments are screwed up on this and some previous posts since I switched themes today. perhaps someone in the know within voxtropolis will come to my aid. Most likely I will try and track down some vox support tomorrow.
